HB307 Summary

• Amends Section 11-98-4, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to Emergency Telephone Services and local 911 districts.

• Permits two or more existing 911 districts to enter into contracts to jointly provide services by adopting identical resolutions.

• Requires contracts to describe the joint power or service, state the intent to cooperate, include a termination date no later than three years from execution, and allow any district to terminate with 180 days' notice.

• Maintains each district's separate legal status and powers except as necessary to jointly exercise contracted services; does not impair existing contracts between districts.

• Prohibits joint 911 service operations until the Statewide 911 Board certifies that joint operations are ready without service interruption.
