AL HB391

Allows health care providers authorized by employers to bill an injured employee's health insurance plan first for certified medical care related to work injuries.

Requires employers to reimburse health insurers for all amounts paid on approved claims, plus any out-of-pocket costs the employee paid (deductibles, copayments, coinsurance).

Requires employers to pay providers directly if health insurers deny or partially deny claims for certified medical care under workers' compensation obligations.

Prohibits employers from suing health insurers, pursuing subrogation rights, or appealing health insurance decisions related to coverage for work injury claims.

Becomes effective October 1, 2024.
