HB427 Summary

• Amends Section 45-38-81.60 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand the Judge of Probate of Lamar County's authority to collect mail fees for license renewals.

• Extends mail fee authorization to include boat licenses and any other licenses deliverable by mail or over the Internet, in addition to motor vehicle registrations and business licenses.

• Allows the Judge of Probate to set mail fees not exceeding five dollars ($5) per transaction to offset mailing and renewal costs.

• Requires all collected fees to be deposited in a special county treasury fund and used at the Judge of Probate's discretion for office operations.

• Takes effect June 1, 2024, and does not eliminate the option for persons to renew licenses in person at the probate office.
