Marengo County Commission may levy an additional annual issuance fee not to exceed $5 per motor vehicle tag issued in the county or subject to ad valorem taxation.

The additional fee becomes due at the same time as the state license and registration fee and cannot be collected more than once per vehicle in a 12-month period.

Persons age 65 or older with verified proof of age are exempt from paying the issuance fee for one motor vehicle.

Revenue collected from the fee shall be deposited into a special fund for distribution to the Marengo County Economic Development Authority and for improvements to the county road system.

The act is retroactive to October 1, 2022, ratifying any fees collected and funds distributed after that date, and becomes effective immediately.
