Taiwan is the United States' eighth-largest trading partner with $105 billion in bilateral trade in 2021, and Alabama's 13th largest import country and 21st largest export market.

Alabama was the second state to sign a K-12 and higher education cooperation agreement with Taiwan in 2022, and Auburn University established a Taiwan Center for Chinese Language and Culture with National Cheng Kung University.

Taiwan's delegation at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama won 13 medals, its third-best tally ever.

The resolution encourages Alabama legislators to join the Taiwan Caucus in welcoming establishment of a state trade office in Taiwan, following the example of South Carolina, New Mexico, Montana, and Pennsylvania.

The resolution supports the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade and Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations including WHO, UNFCCC, ICAO, INTERPOL, and IPEF.
