Honors Deputy Deonte Washington of Tuscaloosa County as a 2024 Alabama Legislative Meritorious Service Award for Law Enforcement recipient for exemplary courage in the line of duty.

On December 15, 2023, Deputy Washington responded to a structure fire on Old Greensboro Road and assisted in evacuating residents from an apartment building.

Deputy Washington rescued a disoriented male subject from the burning apartment and alerted the Tuscaloosa Fire Department to provide medical treatment.

Deputy Washington re-entered the smokey apartment, located the fire source, and rescued a disoriented female subject by carrying her to safety.

The House of Representatives dedicates this resolution to Deputy Washington in recognition of his bravery, selflessness, and quick actions that saved two lives.
