Mourns the death of Warren Lee Helms, a United States Air Force Veteran and former Alabama Emergency Management Agency Director, who died on April 8, 2024, at age 68.

Helms served six years in the U.S. Air Force from 1973-1979 and began his emergency management career in 1979 responding to Hurricane Frederick in Mobile County.

As State EMA Director under Governors Fob James and Don Siegelman, Helms advanced through the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and later opened Lee Helms Associates, LLC to assist cities and counties with disaster planning.

Helms served his community through the Montgomery City Planning Commission, Jefferson Davis High School PTA, and held leadership positions as President of the Alabama National Emergency Number Association-911 and Board member of the Humane Society of Chilton County.

Helms is survived by three children, five grandchildren, four siblings, and numerous extended family members and friends.
