Dr. Ora M. Banks-Parker, a longtime Jefferson County resident, passed away on February 9, 2024, at age 106.

She earned multiple degrees including a Bachelor of Science from Alabama State University, Master of Education from Tuskegee University, and an Honorary Doctor of Law from Birmingham Baptist Bible College.

Dr. Banks-Parker served 32 years in the Jefferson County School System as a teacher, with her first job at Hooper City High School and final position at Shades Mountain Elementary School in 1990.

She actively served her community and church for decades, including 20 years as Chaplain of the Birmingham Alumni Chapter of Alabama State University and more than 40 years on the Board of Directors for Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College.

The House of Representatives recorded her death with deep sadness and offered this resolution in tribute to her life, service, and legacy as an educator and devoted community member.
