AL SB142

Changes the Pell City Board of Education from an elected board to an appointed board, with members appointed by the City Council of Pell City in accordance with general law.

Requires each appointed board member to reside within the Pell City School Attendance Zone and Tax District as established in Section 59-10.21 of the Alabama Constitution of 2022, with at least two members appointed from the county portion of the district.

Repeals Act 92-248 (1992), Act 93-384 (1993), and Act 97-858 (1997), which previously provided for the election of Pell City Board of Education members.

Becomes effective only upon ratification of an amendment to the Alabama Constitution of 2022 that changes the Pell City Board of Education membership from elected to appointed.

Passed the Senate on April 9, 2024, and the House of Representatives on April 25, 2024.
