SB148 Summary

• Continues the existence and functioning of the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy until October 1, 2028.

• Board composition remains six members appointed by the Governor: three respiratory therapists, one hospital chief executive officer, one physician, and one consumer member.

• Replaces references to nonexistent nominating agencies by updating the consumer member nomination sources to include American Lung Association in Alabama and the Alabama Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

• Board members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for travel expenses and per diem allowances paid from the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy Fund.

• Act becomes effective June 1, 2024.
