Amends Section 11-2A-2 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to authorize county commissions in Category 2 or Category 3 counties to increase sheriff salaries effective at the beginning of a sheriff's next term of office.

Any salary increase must be authorized at least three months prior to the party primary election qualifying period.

If a salary increase cannot be paid during the current term due to constitutional limitations, it shall be paid as an expense allowance until the next term of office, then converted to base salary.

Expense allowances paid to sheriffs are treated as salary for purposes of supernumerary programs and the Employees' Retirement System.

The act becomes effective on June 1, 2024.
