Department of Revenue must annually report to the Joint Transportation Committee on total local motor fuel excise tax revenues collected and amounts expended on road and bridge maintenance and improvement, with reports due by March 31 each year.

Department of Examiners of Public Accounts (rather than the Joint Transportation Committee) must complete annual performance reports comparing the Department of Transportation's actual highway construction, maintenance, and costs against original plans for the preceding and five prior fiscal years.

Performance reports must be issued within 60 days of the second quarterly meeting and made available to the public within 70 days, upon request of the committee chair or majority vote of committee members.

Bill amends Section 29-2-4 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to shift reporting responsibilities from the Department of Transportation and Joint Transportation Committee to the Department of Revenue and Department of Examiners of Public Accounts.

Effective date: June 1, 2024.
