SB175 Summary

• Increases maximum monthly compensation for local school board members from $600 to $900 per month, unless a higher figure is set by local act with majority board approval.

• Requires board members to comply with continuing education and training requirements developed under Section 16-1-41.1 or have their compensation held in escrow.

• Specifies that if a board member resigns, vacates, or otherwise leaves office while compensation remains in escrow, those remaining escrowed funds revert to the local board of education.

• Repeals Section 16-8-5, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to compensation of county board of education members.

• Takes effect on October 1, 2024.
