Requires a unanimous vote by all jurors to impose a death sentence in capital murder cases, changing the current requirement of at least 10 jurors.

Requires a majority vote by jurors to impose a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.

Requires resentencing for defendants sentenced before June 1, 2024, if a judge imposed a sentence different from the jury's advisory sentence and the death sentence was not unanimous.

Repeals Section 13A-5-47.1 relating to sentencing application for certain capital murder defendants.

Becomes effective June 1, 2024.
