Effective at the 2026 General Election, the Chair of the Baldwin County Commission shall be elected countywide on a full-time basis with a four-year term concurrent with other commission members.

The chair shall receive a salary based on the same salary schedule as a circuit court judge in Baldwin County, including adjustments for years of service.

The chair may appoint six contract employees subject to county commission approval: County Administrator, County Engineer, Clerk/Treasurer, Budget Director, Emergency Management Director, and Personnel Director.

Effective 2026, the four remaining county commissioners shall be elected from single-member districts only by qualified electors of each respective district, with district boundaries to be established by local law prior to July 1, 2025.

The act becomes operative only if approved by Baldwin County voters in a referendum to be held on the date of the 2024 General Election; if rejected, the act has no effect.
