AL SB201

Amends Section 13A-8-227, Code of Alabama 1975, to expand restitution requirements for organized retail theft convictions.

Adds the local sheriff to the list of entities entitled to receive restitution, specifically for the cost of housing and care of the convicted person.

Maintains existing restitution requirements to retail merchant victims and primary investigative law enforcement and prosecutorial entities for investigation and prosecution costs.

Becomes effective October 1, 2024.
