AL SB217

Adds Section 16-23-25 to the Alabama Code to provide experience credit on local teacher salary schedules for teachers who previously worked as paraprofessionals or classroom teacher's aides.

Teachers with at least four years of full-time experience as a paraprofessional or classroom aide in public schools receive one year of salary schedule credit for every two years of prior experience in that role.

Applies only to teachers hired into certification-required positions on or after June 1, 2024.

Requires that teachers be issued a teacher certificate and hired into a position requiring such certification to qualify for the experience credit.
