Designates Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) as the official State Native Grass of Alabama.

Little Bluestem is a warm-season grass native to lower Canada and all U.S. states except Nevada and Washington.

Legislature finds that Little Bluestem supports Alabama ecosystems by maintaining ecological balance, providing wildlife habitat and food sources, and combating drought and soil erosion.

Little Bluestem's blue-green foliage and reddish-brown seed heads provide aesthetic benefits to Alabama's landscapes and support conservation and ecological restoration initiatives.

Act becomes effective on October 1, 2024.
