AL SB23

Prohibits the manufacture, sale, holding for sale, or distribution of cultivated food products (food produced from cultured animal cells) in Alabama.

Establishes violation as a Class C misdemeanor, with potential suspension or revocation of food safety permits for establishments and owners/employees convicted of violations.

Food sales establishments and food establishments violating the prohibition are subject to disciplinary action and enforcement measures by the Department of Public Health.

Exempts research activities conducted by federal, state, or local governmental entities, institutions of higher education, or partners of such entities with formal agreements from the prohibition.

Effective date is October 1, 2024.
