SB234 Summary

• Amends Section 41-16-51 of the Alabama Code to add county public building authorities to the exemption from competitive bidding requirements for public contracts.

• Expands existing exemptions for contracts related to industrial development and public building authorities under Chapter 15 of Title 11 and Chapter 56 of Title 11 to include county public building authorities.

• Maintains all other existing exemptions from competitive bidding, including purchases of insurance, professional services, utility equipment, and governmental cooperative purchasing programs.

• Contracts entered into in violation of the article remain void and individuals who violate the requirements are subject to Class C felony penalties.

• Effective date: June 1, 2024.
