AL SB24

Elevates false reporting of a crime to law enforcement from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class C felony when the false report alleges imminent danger to a person or the public.

Requires persons convicted of false reporting that results in an emergency response or investigation to pay restitution for all expenses incurred, including police, firefighting, emergency medical services, and personnel costs.

Mandates that felony sentences for false reporting violations be served day-for-day without reduction or suspension by any provision of law.

Applies to false reports made to local, state, or federal law enforcement authorities.

Becomes effective October 1, 2024.
