SB25 Summary

• Authorizes the Board of Nursing to establish rules providing standards and scope of practice for certified nursing support technicians and issue permits to eligible applicants.

• Defines certified nursing support technician as an individual who completes a board-approved curriculum for supportive nursing services, passes a board-approved examination, and performs services under licensed nurse supervision without requiring nursing judgment.

• Clarifies disciplinary powers of the Board of Nursing to deny, revoke, suspend, place on probation, or otherwise discipline applicants and licensees, including holders of multistate privileges to practice nursing in Alabama.

• Authorizes the Board of Nursing to adopt rules imposing nondisciplinary administrative penalties for designated violations of nursing regulations.

• Effective date: October 1, 2024.
