Individuals 75 years of age or older may submit a written statement to the court requesting permanent exemption from jury service, and the court shall remove them from the master jury list upon receipt of such request.

Adds age 75 or older as a standalone ground for excusal from jury service, in addition to existing grounds of undue or extreme physical or financial hardship, mental or physical incapacity, or public necessity.

Individuals excused from jury service for undue or extreme hardship may be temporarily excused for up to 24 months, after which they may be directed to reappear for jury service.

Defines undue or extreme physical or financial hardship to include inability to find substitute childcare, costs substantially impacting daily living expenses, or physical hardship causing illness or disease; expressly excludes absence from employment as grounds for hardship.

The act becomes effective October 1, 2024.
