AL SB35

Amends Alabama Code Section 16-6B-2 to require that all social studies and history instruction in public K-12 schools be fact-based, historically accurate, and inclusive of the history and contributions of minority groups.

Maintains existing core curriculum requirement of four years of social studies with emphasis on history, and continues requirement that history courses include material on U.S. history, the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Emancipation Proclamation, and Federalist Papers.

Requires the State Board of Education to adopt policies and standards to ensure college and university education departments properly prepare prospective teachers to teach the required courses by law.

Becomes effective October 1, 2024.
