AL SB40

Proposes a constitutional amendment to Section 152 of the Alabama Constitution of 2022 to allow associate justices of the Supreme Court and judges of the appellate courts to be elected by districts rather than statewide.

Maintains the current system requiring all other judges to be elected by vote of electors within their respective territorial jurisdictions.

District-based elections for Supreme Court associate justices and appellate court judges commence with the 2026 General Election.

Legislature shall determine the district boundaries for these judicial elections.

Amendment becomes effective upon approval by a majority of qualified electors voting in a statewide referendum election.
