SB50 Summary

• Prohibits governmental entities from enacting or enforcing resolutions, ordinances, regulations, or policies that restrict or prohibit the acquisition or use of any appliance based solely on the type of energy or energy generation used to operate it.

• Defines "appliance" as items used in homes or commercial/industrial settings for domestic tasks including cooking, food storage, heating, cooling, washing, or drying.

• Allows governmental entities to continue regulating energy providers, prohibiting illegal appliance use, ensuring compliance with manufacturer recommendations, and enforcing building permits and public safety codes.

• Becomes effective on October 1, 2024.

• Passed by the Senate on February 27, 2024, and the House of Representatives on April 2, 2024.
