Board of Trustees composition changed from one member per congressional district plus additional members to 18 at-large members plus the Governor or designee.

Speaker of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate each appoint one additional at-large member effective August 1, 2024, serving six-year terms.

Beginning January 1, 2024, board vacancies filled by at-large members appointed in rotating order by the Lieutenant Governor, Governor, Minority Leader of House, Minority Leader of Senate, Speaker of House, and President Pro Tempore of Senate.

Appointing authorities must coordinate appointments to ensure the board reflects racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic diversity of Alabama.

Act becomes effective June 1, 2024; passed Senate 28-5 on February 14, 2024.
