AL SB84

Prohibits filing fees for motions requesting qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs) filed within 120 days of the final divorce order, with QDROs defined under 26 U.S.C. § 414(p).

Establishes filing fees for civil cases in district and circuit courts, ranging from $35 for small claims cases up to $297 for circuit court cases, with specific fees for domestic relations cases ($145-$248).

Allows $50 filing fees for dispositive motions (judgments on pleadings, default judgments, and summary judgments) except in small claims cases where the amount in controversy does not exceed $3,000.

Charges additional plaintiff fees of $50 per additional plaintiff in district court cases (capped at $500 total) and $100 per additional plaintiff in circuit court cases (capped at $1,000 total).

Becomes effective October 1, 2024.
