AL SJR25

SJR25 is a joint resolution mourning the death and celebrating the life of Captain Marisa Lee Futral of Wetumpka, Alabama, who died at age 55.

Captain Futral earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 and a Master of Science degree in Education in 1994 from Auburn University School of Wildlife Science, and became the first female Regional Hunter Education Coordinator in 2005 and an FBI Firearms Instructor in 2007.

She became the first female supervisor in the Wildlife Section of the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries and the highest-ranking woman in the Law Enforcement Section, attaining the rank of Captain and serving as Alabama Hunter Education Coordinator.

Captain Futral's major accomplishments included implementing and constructing over 20 Community Archery Parks, overseeing the transition to staffed shooting ranges, developing online hunter education, and serving as President of the International Hunter Education Association USA from 2021-2023.

She is survived by her husband Leldon Futral, sons Kyle and Hunter Futral, mother Margie Lee Metcalf, three grandsons, one granddaughter, brother Bruce Lee, and aunt Gloria Bachtel.
