SJR51 Summary

• Continues in existence the Alabama Opioid Overdose and Addiction Council established by Executive Order No. 708 under Governor Kay Ivey in 2017.

• Council shall continue meeting and studying the opioid crisis in Alabama, monitoring implementation of the strategic action plan, and providing periodic updates and recommendations to the Governor.

• Non-legislative council members may be reimbursed for expenses related to attending meetings, training, and fulfilling council duties.

• Legislative members of the council receive regular legislative compensation, per diem, and travel expenses for meeting attendance, paid from legislative appropriations, except when the Legislature is in session or members are being compensated for other state business on the same dates.

• Senate passed the resolution April 16, 2024; House passed April 23, 2024.
