AL HB101

Authorizes the Mobile County Sheriff to establish procedures for making purchases of tangible property and services using credit cards or debit cards issued to the Sheriff's Office.

Requires the sheriff to adopt written policies including monetary limits on individual and monthly purchases, restricted access to cards and security codes, accurate record-keeping, monthly bill reviews, and timely full payment to avoid fees and interest.

Sheriff must select card providers considering annual fees, rewards or rebates, interest rates and late fees, termination penalties, and other relevant factors.

Any rewards or rebates earned from card use must be deposited into the Mobile County Sheriff's Office discretionary account.

Clarifies that the measure does not authorize spending beyond lawfully appropriated funds or allow the sheriff to establish debt on behalf of Mobile County Commission; becomes effective June 1, 2025.
