Agencies must present retiring law enforcement officers with their agency-issued badge as part of retirement benefits.

Agencies may present retiring officers with their agency-issued pistol as part of retirement benefits.

If an agency does not present the pistol, it may offer to sell the pistol to the retiring officer at a reasonable fair market price determined by the agency.

Applies to law enforcement officers employed by county or municipal agencies that require certification by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission who are in good standing at retirement.

Effective October 1, 2025.
