HB128 Summary

• Continues the existence and functioning of the Alabama Board of Nursing until October 1, 2029, pursuant to the Alabama Sunset Law.

• Modifies board appointment requirements so that commencing June 1, 2025, one board member must reside in and be appointed from each of Alabama's congressional districts, with remaining members appointed from the state at-large.

• Maintains the Board of Nursing's 13-member composition: 6 licensed professional nurses, 1 advanced practice licensed professional nurse, 1 certified registered nurse anesthetist, 4 licensed practical nurses, and 1 consumer member.

• Requires the Governor to appoint board members from nomination lists provided by the Alabama State Nurses Association, Licensed Practical Nurses Association of Alabama, Alabama Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, and Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

• Establishes that the Sunset Committee shall review board participation in the Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact, with mandatory review if annual assessment exceeds one-half of one percent of gross board revenue or if litigation is brought against the state or board.
