HB155 Summary

• Amends Section 1-3-8 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to specify that Alabama shall observe as holidays all days designated as federal holidays as of January 1, 2025.

• Allows the Governor to designate additional state holidays, with a requirement to include at least one date from: the third Monday in January, the fourth Monday in April, or the first Monday in June.

• Requires the Governor to close all state offices and facilities between 13 days per year in observance of public and legal holidays, and clarifies the Superintendent of Banks may authorize bank closures for state and federal holidays.

• Maintains existing provisions for holiday observance in Mobile and Baldwin Counties (Mardi Gras), one personal leave day for state employees outside those counties, and compensatory leave for employees working on holidays.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2025.
