Prohibits sale, transfer, and possession of assault weapons defined as selective-fire firearms, specific semiautomatic rifles (including AK and AR series), pistols, and shotguns, effective June 1, 2026.

Selling or transferring assault weapons is a Class B felony, or Class A felony if transferred to a person under 18 years old; possessing without compliance is a Class C felony.

Persons who lawfully possessed assault weapons before June 1, 2025, must register with Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, render permanently inoperable, sell to licensed dealer, or remove from state by June 1, 2026.

Registered assault weapons may only be possessed at residence, place of business, licensed shooting ranges, or firearms exhibitions; cannot be carried loaded or concealed in public or vehicles unless in trunk or locked container.

Exempts antique firearms, law enforcement and military personnel acting in official capacity, licensed gun dealers, and manufacturers; establishes registration fee not to exceed $50 and requires background checks.
