HB250 Summary

• Amends Sections 36-25-14 and 36-25-15 of the Alabama Code to modify filing deadlines and procedures for candidates' statements of economic interests with the State Ethics Commission.

• Changes candidate filing requirement from filing on the date of filing qualifying papers to filing "in accordance with Section 36-25-15," establishing a separate, detailed filing deadline process for candidates.

• Requires candidates to file completed statements of economic interests within five days after filing a declaration of candidacy or, for independent candidates, within five days after the first primary election; for municipal candidates, within five days after the qualifying deadline.

• Allows 90 days for unintentional omissions on financial disclosures to be corrected by amended statement without penalty; intentional violations subject to administrative fines or Class A misdemeanor charges.

• Effective October 1, 2025; requires State Ethics Commission to notify election officials within five business days whether candidates complied with filing requirements, with non-compliance resulting in removal from ballot.
