Alabama Department of Public Health shall publish written materials about postpartum depression for health care professionals and parents, including signs, symptoms, and when to seek help.

Department shall periodically review materials for effectiveness and current accuracy, post them on its website, and make printed copies available to health care professionals and hospitals.

Hospitals may distribute the materials to parents or family members of newborns upon discharge.

Physicians and licensed health care professionals must assess birth mothers for postpartum depression during postnatal or pediatric infant care, using professional judgment in recommending treatment.

Hospitals, physicians, and health care professionals have legal immunity from liability for providing or failing to provide postpartum depression information and materials under this section.

Act becomes effective October 1, 2025.
