HB448 Summary

• Authorizes individuals to provide care and treatment to injured, orphaned, or debilitated wild birds and animals that are not federally protected or endangered, with the goal of returning them to the wild.

• Does not permit individuals engaged in wildlife rehabilitation to practice veterinary medicine as defined in Section 34-29-61 of the Alabama Code.

• Does not exempt individuals from animal cruelty laws under Section 13A-11-14 of the Alabama Code.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2025.
