AL HB501

Authorizes the Legislative Council to contract for demolition of the current Alabama State House building located at 11 South Union Street in Montgomery upon completion of the new Alabama State House.

Allows the building to be demolished in a manner that permits removal and disposition of property and materials affixed to the building that have value, regardless of state inventory status.

Requires the Legislative Council, Legislative Services Agency, Clerk of the House of Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate to provide the State Auditor with a list of property and materials to be removed from inventory.

Permits removed property and materials to be reused, recycled, upcycled, sold, or disposed of as determined by the Legislative Council in a fiscally responsible manner, with de minimis value materials available for commemorative uses.

Authorizes the Clerk of the House of Representatives and Secretary of the Senate to set prices and sell desks, chairs, and other items from the old chambers that will not be relocated to the new State House, with sales limited to Legislature members and employees.

Becomes effective July 1, 2025.
