HB520 Summary

• Prohibits employers and prospective employers from discriminating against individuals who refuse vaccines, drugs, facial coverings, or gene editing technology for reasons of conscience, including religious convictions, regarding hiring, advancement, compensation, and employment terms.

• Prohibits places of public accommodation from discriminating based on an individual's immunization status or refusal to wear facial coverings for conscience or religious reasons.

• Prohibits hospitals and health plan insurers from denying medical care, services, or insurance coverage based on refusal of vaccines, drugs, or facial coverings for conscience or religious reasons, except surgical masks during surgical, medical, or dental procedures.

• Prohibits occupational licensing boards from denying, suspending, revoking, or refusing to issue or renew licenses based on immunization status.

• Authorizes individuals to seek injunctions and recover damages including attorney fees; permits the Attorney General to enforce the act and defend entities facing federal penalties for compliance with the act; becomes effective June 1, 2025.
