HB69 Summary

• Applies only to Class 1 municipalities and creates state criminal penalties for federal firearm prohibitions under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), including convictions for felonies, fugitive status, controlled substance use, mental illness adjudication, illegal alien status, dishonorable military discharge, and domestic violence restraining orders or convictions.

• Makes it a Class B felony to knowingly sell, give, or dispose of a firearm or ammunition to any person prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law.

• Makes it a Class B felony to receive, possess, conceal, store, barter, sell, or dispose of stolen firearms or ammunition, knowing or having reasonable cause to believe the items were stolen.

• Prohibits possession of short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, machineguns, firearm silencers or mufflers, and devices that convert semi-automatic firearms to automatic fire; violations are Class B felonies.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2025; exempts items possessed in compliance with the National Firearms Act and other applicable federal law.
