Commends John Clyde Riggs for 50 years of selfless public service to the Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission (ATRC).

Riggs earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University in 1972 and began his career with ATRC in 1974, serving as Executive Director since 1997.

ATRC is a 10-county regional planning and development commission providing services in economic development, community planning, technical assistance, aging programs, Medicaid waiver services, and rural transportation.

Riggs was instrumental in creating the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Art Center in Camden, Alabama, which has attracted visitors from all 50 states and over 30 foreign countries.

Riggs served on numerous boards and organizations including Camden City Council, Wilcox County Commission, Economic Development Association of Alabama, and the Black Belt Action Commission.
