Legislature encourages and supports $3 million in recurring annual appropriations for the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit (MACS) as included in Governor Ivey's budget proposal.

MACS is a collaborative law enforcement unit established in June 2024 comprising officers from the City of Montgomery, Montgomery County, the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, and federal agencies.

Since inception, MACS has conducted 2,100 traffic stops, served 599 arrest warrants, arrested 237 individuals, recovered 47 stolen vehicles, and seized 166 firearms.

MACS has made 45 drug seizures including a significant fentanyl seizure with enough recovered fentanyl to kill over 5,000 individuals.

The $3 million appropriation would enable MACS to expand its service area beyond Montgomery throughout the state and hire an additional 10 personnel.
