Congratulates Dr. Walter B. Gonsoulin, Jr. for being named the 2025 National Superintendent of the Year at the AASA National Conference on Education, the first Alabama educator to win this title.

Recognizes the National Superintendent of the Year Program in its 38th year for honoring exceptional superintendents based on leadership for learning, communication, professionalism, and community involvement.

Acknowledges Gonsoulin's leadership of Jefferson County Schools in Birmingham, which oversees 56 schools with 35,000 students across an area roughly the size of Rhode Island as the state's second largest district.

Highlights his achievements since taking office in 2020, including tackling chronic absenteeism and implementing zoning pattern changes to expand learning opportunities for all students, earning him the 2025 Alabama State Superintendent of the Year award.
