Albert Leo Shumaker of Jasper, Alabama, died on February 19, 2025, at age 84 after a long and productive life.

Shumaker earned a Bachelor of Arts from Howard College (now Samford University) in 1963 and a Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law in 1965, serving as City Attorney for Centre beginning in 1980 and representing municipalities in Cherokee County for over 45 years.

He was deeply involved in civic and community life, including serving over 20 years on the Samford University Board of Trustees, chairing the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, and holding leadership roles in the Centre Lions and Rotary Clubs.

Shumaker was instrumental in creating the Law Library at the Cherokee County Courthouse, helped lead the renovation of the main courtroom, and mentored attorneys throughout the state while serving as a dedicated member of Centre First Baptist Church for 58 years.

The House of Representatives offers heartfelt sympathy to his surviving family, which includes his wife Anne Williamson Shumaker, and requests that copies of this resolution be provided to his grieving family.
