Commends Mildred S. Woods for being named a Willie and Betty Farrior Family Foundation Honoree for her community contributions.

The foundation was established in 2017 by Mary Louise Farrior-White and Retired Colonel Cedrick A. Farrior to honor Willie Farrior, the first African American hired by the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) in 1973.

Woods is a retired educator from the Talladega City School System who taught special education, reading, math, and adult education at multiple institutions including Federal Correctional Institute and Talladega College.

Woods has held numerous leadership positions at Peace Baptist Church including Superintendent of Sunday School, Chaplain of the Willing Workers Ministry, and President of the Senior Choir.

Woods has received multiple awards including Outstanding Black Educators Award, Jacksonville Teacher Hall of Fame, Alabama Teacher of the Year (elementary division), and Outstanding Citizens Award from the Alabama Democratic Committee.
