SB110 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code sections 32-9-20 and 32-9-31 to add certain trucks to those excepted from weight limits on state highways.

• Establishes procedures for using portable scales to enforce vehicle weight limits, including requirements for tandem/triaxle rig weighing and operator dispute resolution options.

• Allows vehicle operators who dispute portable scale findings to either request accompaniment by enforcement officer to certified platform scales within 10 miles, or proceed independently to scales within 100 miles and submit weight ticket and affidavit within 48 hours to avoid penalties.

• Limits detention to no more than five vehicles at any one time when using portable scales for enforcement.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2025.
