AL SB124

Revises the Joint Committee of the State Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing for Advanced Practice Nurses to include two certified registered nurse practitioners in active collaborative practice and one certified nurse midwife in active collaborative practice, replacing the previous one registered nurse member.

Increases per diem for committee members from $100 to $300 per day for attendance at official meetings or functions, plus reimbursement for subsistence and travel.

Changes appointment authority for nurse practitioner members from the Board of Nursing to the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama or its successor organization, and designates the Alabama American College of Nurse-Midwives for midwife member appointments.

Establishes that rejection of joint committee recommendations by either the State Board of Medical Examiners or Board of Nursing requires a three-fifths majority vote, with rejected recommendations returned to the committee for reevaluation.

Becomes effective October 1, 2025, with a transition provision replacing the registered nurse member with a certified registered nurse practitioner on that date.
