SB179 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code sections 31-2A-15 and 31-2A-19 to revise disciplinary measures and rank requirements for Alabama National Guard military punishments.

• Expands commanding officer authority at brigade or battalion level (Army) or wing/group/base level (Air) to impose disciplinary punishments on enlisted members E-6 and below, including reductions in pay grade for E-4 and below members.

• Allows Governor, Adjutant General, or general/flag rank officers to impose a reduction of not more than two pay grades on enlisted members E-6 and below.

• Revises special court-martial authority to reduce soldiers or airmen E-9 and below to E-1, with E-7 through E-9 ranks reducible to E-4, and officers reducible to their highest previously held rank.

• Effective date: October 1, 2025.
