AL SB211

Designates the local superintendent of education or their designee as the main point of contact between local law enforcement and the school district for school bus safety incidents and complaints.

Requires the superintendent or designee to receive and document all incidents and complaints regarding school bus safety and related laws, including trespass on a school bus (Section 13A-7-4.2) and overtaking a school bus (Section 32-5A-154).

Mandates the superintendent or designee to interview witnesses, gather evidence including video footage, file police reports, sign warrants, and file charges or pursue legal action against individuals who commit crimes or violate school bus safety laws.

Preserves the right of bus drivers to voluntarily file charges and does not mandate that bus drivers file charges related to trespass or overtaking violations.

Becomes effective on July 1, 2025.
